premise [Dec 28th, 09

]
Earth-that-was became barren and uninhabitable, so humanity packed up its bags and made outer space its new frontier. Terraforming converted planets into colonies of varying status, some rich with technology and others poor and primitive. The core colonies became the Alliance, and the Alliance became a force to be reckoned with, seeking to take all of the other planets until their power. Then came the Unification War. To sum it up, the Alliance won, and the Independents? They lost the battle, but they weren't completely defeated. Many of the surviving Brown Coats scattered to the edges of the 'verse, doing what it took to survive under the new regime. Out here, people struggled to get by with the most basic technologies; a ship would bring you work, a gun would help you keep it. A captain's goal was simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.

That War was nearly seven years ago. The year is 2517 A.D. This is the story of the crews of two starships that are doing just that -- doing what it takes to make a living in the outer planets, whether it's legal or not -- and the one crew that's out there to uphold the law. A job's a job, right?

WELCOME TO THE 'VERSE.
Beginning at the same time as the pilot episode Serenity, the events of this game will run concurrent to those that occurred during the run of the series, up to and even through the events of the following film and beyond. However, it's very unlikely that the paths of these ships will ever cross within the game, so we needn't worry about canon portrayals, although they may spring up in passing or as NPCs, at most. Nevertheless, the actions that the crew of Serenity take may affect the lives of those on board the Nekhbet, Corvus, and the many other ships flying about the galaxy. This is a look at what the rest of the 'verse is doing around Mal and his people.

the rules [Dec 30th, 07
8:49 pm
]
The rules are fairly simple, walk with me.

01 The mods are only around to keep things organized and give some direction when it's needed, but that will (hopefully) be a rare occurrence.

02 This is a player driven game, where players are given the ability to govern themselves. The plot of this game is determined by players first and foremost. Your decisions are going to be more numerous than mod ones, and are more important than the occasional shove or push of plot from "authority."

03 You are responsible for your activity in the game, no mod is going to be on you about it. Reply to threads, post up entries that are open for commenting, write scenes with your co-players -- we don't care how you do it, we just want you to show signs of life. Please keep us updated if you need to take a hiatus for any reason; communication is key! However, inactivity over a noticeable amount of time will get a removal, which no one wants to have to do.

04 Threads must be marked according to setting, including backdates, please. Add whatever other details you feel relevant, but at least include the following, and put lengthy entries behind a cut tag:
Who; is involved?
Where; are they? Include the when here, too.
Summary; of what's going to happen.
Rating; with any warnings, if necessary

the crews [Dec 29th, 07

comment with your position & pb holds below. you can hold a position or a pb, or both at once, if you've already decided. holds will last for up to 5 days from when the moderator responds. challenging applications will not be reviewed until the original hold has also applied or their hold has expired. all captains should be of a reasonable age -- i.e. within their 30s or above, if only because they're more likely to have the confidence of a crew behind them than some young, inexperienced kid. that being said, pbs should be appropriate to the setting and their character's role, and cannot be used if they were featured characters in the series/film. i'm not going to be picky, just use some common sense. while i'd prefer a balanced ratio of male to female (not an exact, since there's an odd number) characters, i'm not going to limit the genders.

application [Dec 28th, 07
7:32 pm
]
FULL NAME First, Middle, Last. (But your character doesn't have to have a middle name.)
AGE Self-explanatory.
DATE OF BIRTH Please provide Month, Day, Year. Present year is 2517, so subtract from there.
POSITION What job do they serve on the ship? Indicate held or not.
PB Who, and were they held? PBs should be age appropriate to the character.
AIM Not required, although if IC, please have it relate to your character's name. Can be an OOC name, but if you choose this route, please be aware that people from this game may IM you.
HISTORY Please link to a first entry. This can be a biography, written in either first or third person, detailing the history of the character from birth to where they are now. Please write a few substantial paragraphs if you're choosing that style. Alternatively, you can supply a detailed timeline or list of facts about the character. We'd like to get a good feel for not just their background, but their personality.
JOURNAL Linked & Unlinked. Have it relate to your character's name.
EXAMPLES A compilation journal is preferred, but you may PM or comment the drop box with a link to these. Please provide at least TWO (2) third person examples, AIM or threading or even short-story format. Third person examples are a lot more important than first, as much of this RP will be done through threading and/or scening.
PICTURE One or two HQ, color pics for the directory, linked

All comments/applications are screened. Rejections will be given a courteous reply; please do not take these personally. All characters/players will be selected based upon quality of writing as provided in the biography and the samples, and the way they will mesh with the other applications.

ADDS DONE AS NEEDED.

nb Former characters do not need to reapply, just drop a comment to the mod if you'd like to make any changes or have decided to take your former position.

Positions are available on a first come, first served basis.

you don't have to have seen the series/movie to play the game, but it certainly helps to have a good grasp on the setting. none of this game will involve canon characters or events, since this is meant to contain entirely original characters in similar situations as seen in the film and tv show, but for those in need of a refresher course, i've provided a handful of links that will help to familiarize people with the way things work in the future. if anyone has any other valuable links, please feel free to comment and i'll update this list.
